Birch Tree 03:29
I loved you like an old birch tree Bent down to kneel and pray at the forest floor The roots spread wide and they were deep Put there before the first Americans Were run out of town Shot to the ground You loved me like a dog in heat Condemned to cry outside of your windowsill Did you know I survived for years Scraping the bowl for a meal Dust on your shelf Whatever helped I don’t need a father anymore I can’t be your animal no more I loved you like an old birch tree Condemned to cry outside of your windowsill Did you know I survived for years Scraping the bowl for a meal I lied to myself Whatever helped I don’t need a father anymore I can’t be your animal no more

Free Now 04:50
I’m so free now moving slowly in the waves I’m so over it, I don’t even know my name And when they ask me where is the man with the charismatic hands? I don’t even cry Like a little girl I go out to see the day You’d be proud of me, sleeping through the night and everything And when I come around in the town, you will not even know My face is like a ghost Free now Free now Free now I used to just forget myself and in your eyes I’d know And now I find illusion is the final thing to go Free now Free now Free now

Home In the mirror gone When we finally met You were already dead on arrival Front of your idol Ride out in the rain, in the silvery hours You brought me a bouquet of poisonous flowers I’d like to meet you there out by the water tower I -I-I-I Put down a healthy stem Cuz you’re just one of them Ripped to shreds and dead on arrival Somebody else’s idol In the mercury hours You brought me a bouquet of poisonous flowers I’d like to meet you there out by the water tower I Amon amon amon amon Amonyville! Amonyville! (You told me it would last, covered in grass Right down to the soil, in a box made of pine) Ride out in the rain, in the silvery hours You brought me a bouquet of poisonous flowers I’d like to meet you there out by the water tower Aaaah You said that it would last covered in grass You said you felt just fine in a box made of pine I’d like to meet you there I wanna see you waving goodbye By the time you arrived

Kiss Me 03:19
So now that I got you I know Just what it is to be sold or stolen like a pirate’s treasure Sparkling like a new magazine When we have company please they’re coming soon so sweep me under Kiss me like you’ve never met me Touch me when I don’t expect it You’ve changed You’ve changed Hands, oh how I love yours the most Walking in our winter coats we’ve got a lifetime left to wonder Why we did it the way we did What if it wasn’t the best? We’ve reached the bridge so throw me over Throw me over Kiss me like you’ve never met me Hold me when I least expect it You’ve changed (tell me what you think of me) You’ve changed (when you get your hooks in me) You’ve changed (and if there’s a better man) You’ve changed (can he do it like I can?) Kiss me like you’ve never met me Touch me when I don’t expect it You’ve changed

17 03:38
When I was a sad girl, an awful girl Cigarettes in cars You took me to the lighthouse and walked me down The cliff beneath the fog I like I like I like I’d like to see you soon I wait and wait it feels like forever If you saw me now would you take me out? Just like the kid that I knew when I was only 17 Out along the coastline the salty house Was dying in the wind I wanna get my hands cold, my fortune told The future’s coming in And the ground could crack at any moment If you saw me now, would you take me out? Over the bridge The city looks so pretty in the dark Would you know just how everything’s the same The older we get? It’s a good thing we were only 17

White Noise 03:29
Tapped into the sainted strand On top of the painted land I wanna be where I find You tangled in power lines Far gone with the pixels drawn White noise in a hollow cavern I wanna be where you are Can you hear me through all the static? All the time Gonna try Let me know what you decide All the time Tangled in power lines It’s hard to see your best friends They wander with painted faces I wanna be where you are Can you feel me through all the static? All the time Gonna try Let me know what you decide All the time Tangled in power lines

Summertime 03:21
Summertime Going out at night Drive real fast While the wind is high I don’t want to feel you say goodbye No, I never want to give my heart to someone’s goodbye What a guy Runaway at night Now the stars Dripping into our eyes I don’t want to feel you say goodbye No, I never want to give my heart to someone’s goodbye

Don’t know a good thing when I see one And I can’t look it in the eye Sometimes the best days make me cry If I could keep you in the morning And you would stay with me all-day Someday we’d both know what to say But I can’t help you I can’t help you Don’t know a good thing when I see it And I can’t look him in the eye Sometimes the best days make me cry But I can’t help you I can’t help you

Heading back to see you in the rain Heading back to see you don’t be late Love’s the illusion keeps me coming back this way And if you can’t come down to see me that’s okay Heading back with one thing on my mind If it’s like the last time i’ll be fine Love’s the illusion keeps me coming back each time And if you can’t come down to see me that’s just fine There’s a lady in red helps me fly overseas If it’s all in my head would you just tell me please Heading back to see you in the rain Heading back to see you don’t be late Love’s the illusion keeps me coming back this way And if you can’t come down to see me that’s okay That’s okay

about

Take a look at the title track, "Free Now":

This is the bottom of the well, as it were, the wound & the essence of my big heartbreak. I wrote this song on a writing retreat where I decided to be isolated for a few weeks following a very hectic tour schedule, a wild, erratic decision to break with my partner of 6 years, and a need to get back to my home, which is Northern California. I camped out on a beachside cliff. The waves washed me, I didn't really speak to anyone for quite a while, I was so heartbroken I just went through the motions of the grieving alone, eating, sleeping, breathing; and ultimately I came to the GRATITUDE of being alive - singing and writing despite the pain and fear of moving forward.

This song sort of saved me, weeping all over the demo.
